Davis Shore of Knoxville, TN never looked back after taking the lead yesterday at the 2015 Bobby Chapman Invitational. Shore had to stave off a charge from S.M. Lee of Buford, GA early in the day, but 6 birdies on the front nine of the CC of Spartanburg helped Shore keep Lee at bay and never let him get closer than two strokes behind. Davis did struggle on the par three’s on the front nine making a double bogey on the 3rd, and a bogey on the 6th.
Lee and Shore matched birdies on hole 10, with Shore following up with another on the short par four 11th hole. Lee answered with a birdie of his own on hole 12. Both Shore and Lee made bogey on the 13th hole. Then S.M. started to make his final charge with birdies on 14 and 15 to pull back within two strokes of Shore. Davis seemed to seal the championship on hole 17 after he hit it to a foot for eagle on the dogleg left par five. Lee kept himself in the running when he made a 30 foot putt to also make an eagle on 17. A routine par on the final hole for Shore clinched his 2015 Bobby Chapman Invitational title.
In his interview after his round, Davis said “I played good, but S.M. birdied everything it seemed and stayed close to me all day. I definitely felt the pressure out there. I knew I couldn’t make any mistakes because he(Lee) was going crazy out there.”
