Field is set for the 21st Bobby Chapman
Spartanburg, SC – The field has been set for the Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational with 84 players vying for a spot on the perpetual trophy. Of the players representing 19 states, their accomplishments include 27 US Junior Qualifiers, 3 US Amateur Qualifiers, 29 AJGA Wins, and 12 State Junior Champions set for this year. Caleb Proveaux (Lexington, SC) is back to defend his 2014 title and should be considered one of the top contenders. Davis Shore (Knoxville, TN) and SM Lee (Buford, GA) are ranked inside the top 10 on the AJGA’s Polo Rankings and National Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings and would also be on the must watch list.
Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational Alumni have won 50 PGA tour titles including, The Masters (Bubba Watson), U.S. Open (Lucas Glover) and FedEx Cup (Bill Haas). Other notable alumni include Jonathan Byrd, Dustin Johnson, Ben Martin, William McGirt, Kevin Kisner, Scott Brown and Brian Harmon. Collectively, nearly $200 million has been earned on the PGA Tour by alumni of the 21 year-old, nationally renowned junior tournament.
The Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational is held in honor of the late Robert H. “Bobby” Chapman, Jr. Chapman, a longtime member of the Country Club of Spartanburg, was the only man to serve as president of both the South Carolina Golf Association and Carolinas Golf Association. He was an accomplished player and served the USGA in several capacities. In his business life, Chapman was a local and national leader in the textile industry. The tournament also benefits the Spartanburg County Foundation and the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation. To date, over $330,000 has gone to scholarship recipients through both organizations thanks to the many kind supporters of the Bobby Chapman.
The Bobby Chapman is one of 15 major events conducted by the SCJGA and played annually at The Country Club of Spartanburg – a par 71, 6620 yard layout. Results, schedules and applications may be accessed via the Internet at www.scjga.org.
